Default Help me choose, please

I know there are a ton of threadsa about batteries and I have read a bunch, but have not seen this. I have a 2004 ezgo pds cart that needs batteries. I called around and this one guy has a set of 1 year old t-105 trojans he will sell for $425 and he also has a brand new set of "black box" trojans for $500. I'm not sure if I should jump one or keep looking. I'm in northeast ohio, outside of cleveland if anyone has any other recommendations. Other prices are $125 for t-105 at other places or $144 for US batteries.

You might try calling as many places as you can, as prices will vary. For that much money, it would be worth it to consider driving an hour or two to get the best deal. Remember to take the old batteries with you, to avoid the core charge. It also doesn't hurt to ask if they deliver. I got free delivery and they hauled off my old batteries.

I can't recommend buying used batteries on somebody's say so .... Good to test used batteries before they can be said to be good, really.

I'm with Scotty, it's not hard to ruin a set of batteries in a year. I would at least have him charge them, then take readings yourself after they have rested 12 hours.

Used batteries are a crap shoot. Better to buy new ones and take good care of them.

Crown Battery in Fremont isn't far off the OH Turnpike, and they have a factory outlet. About a month ago, I bought what they call "seconds" for $97.00/each. I didn't have any old batteries with me, but they sold the new ones to me anyway. Truthfully, I think the "seconds" description is so their dealers don't get P.O.'d at them for selling direct.

A local dealer had the same batteries for $104.00/each, exchange.

FWIW:

Thanks for the info guys. So I figured new batteries were the way to go. I researched a lot on here about which batteries to go with and it came down to trojan t-105 for 125 each or crown cr-225 for 105 each. After reading all the praise that Scottyb has given crown I decided on them. I called them and said I was on my way to pick them up, when I got there she went to ring them up and saw that all they had in stock was the cr-235. So they gave me those at the price of 105 each. I think I got a pretty good deal. What do you guys think?
