Re: 1991 EZGO Marathon Build
Update #2
Worked on the battery enclosure and tore the old batteries out of the cart. I intend to get it up and running with a temporary/safe/functional setup, try it out for a bit, then tear it down fully and finalize everything. *Question* - I was thinking about using RTV/silicone to seal all of the seams on the battery box to keep moisture/water out. Is this a bad idea? Should I allow for some venting? Maybe even a small PC type fan? I know it won't off-gas when charging and shouldn't get hot at all when charging, but I figured some experts on here may know better. I don't know how warm they will get on discharge. I will have a 1/2" plywood base on top of the carts existing battery tray that the new battery/electronics will be on, so it will be protected from regular splashing |

Re: 1991 EZGO Marathon Build
Another update:
Got a couple hours to work on the cart last week. I think with another couple hours, she'll be moving under her own power again - Built a new bracket to hold the potentiometer for the throttle input. This was needed to make room for the new battery - Got the battery completely finished and ready to be wired/plugged into the cart. - Finished cutting the plywood for the box to keep the electronics protected. Once everything is laid out and planned, I will pull the wood back out and seal it to protect it from water - Now I'm on the layout stage. I place to mount everything on rubber isolators to try to reduce vibration. It may be overkill, but it will only help with the longevity of the components. Note: the solenoid is not mounted in the 4th picture, its just sitting there. I am most likely going to mount it on the back wall of the box. |

Re: 1991 EZGO Marathon Build
In between working on the house, I was able to do some work on the cart.
Updates: Cart is up and running great. I did have some initial issues with wiring/throttle signal, but once I got that squared away, it runs great. Now I just need to tear it all down again for chassis and body paint and clean up some of the wiring. Extra holes in the metal by the F&R will have patch panels welded in. I will also be moving the key switch to the dash |

Re: 1991 EZGO Marathon Build
Also installed a limited slip differential. Kinda pricey, but its nice to have the extra traction. Filling it back up was kind of a pain, but a pic shows the best I could come up with to get all of the fluid in. Also gave it an alignment, I had almost 2" of toe out It definitely rides better and wanders less at speed now

Where did you order your limited slip? I am looking for one for my 94 Marathon.

Amazon. Description says "Fits on 1997-2009 E-Z-GO Electric TXT Fleet and PDS (Precision Drive System) and Electric MPT 1000 Vehicles". It fit into my '91 with no issues or modifications. Just swapped the ring gear and bolted it in. I tried to find it cheaper, but didn't have much luck (maybe you will). Definitely an awesome upgrade though Click me for link |

Added a new steering wheel and started on the body work. Chassis will be sprayed with "chassis saver" and the body will be sprayed with Raptor Liner (bedliner). I haven't decided on color yet. The cart is currently in 'Mad Max" mode

Re: 1991 EZGO Marathon Build
Surprise from Plum Quick showed up the other day...I installed it within 30 minutes of being dropped off . I had to do some swapping around of wires so they would reach, but it all worked out. All I can say is . I splurged and went with the Demon motor. Way more than I wanted to spend, but it is what it is. It took the cart from 18-19 mph to 32 mph on the street. . It also has enough torque to kick the back end out around turns on my gravel driveway...so much fun, but it gets a little dicey with no grab handles to keep your butt in the seat
