2017 YDRE2 Rear End “clunking”
Hi all. I’m new to golf cart ownership and just received a 2017 Yamaha Drive 2 electric with the 5KW 6.7 HP motor. It accelerates and cruises perfect, but on deceleration the rear end starts “clunking” and rattling when it gets to lower speeds. It’s not a grinding or buzzing or whirring. I searched the forums and found instances of a grinding, but that doesn’t describe this. Any thoughts? Or threads I can go to for DIY help fixing it? I figured a 2017 wouldn’t have problems yet, but I was wrong... Thanks!

It's the input shaft & motor coupler. If you were on the gas a little it would change the sound. You can install a thicker rubber bumper between the motor & input shaft.

Thank you for the reply! Is there a walkthrough of this somewhere on the forum or online? Also, any suggestions where I can find the parts? I am handy, but a walkthrough would help

Search for "motor bumper" threads, there are plenty of conversations about it for different vehicles.
JW9-H1829-00-00. Is the part number. |

Re: 2017 YDRE2 Rear End “clunking”
If that video was taken with the rear axle off the ground, the noise I'm hearing sounds like spider gears doing normal spider gear stuff for rear wheels that arent turning the same speed.

I have also figured out it’s the DC motor, not the AC motor on the nameplate, if that makes any difference with the noise. If it’s the motor bumper, would the part be the same? I just got the first one in the mail. |

Re: 2017 YDRE2 Rear End “clunking”
Would not be the same.
Heres the part number my brain says should be right for the DC motor. JH7-H1829-00-00 It's the same, but shorter. |

Re: 2017 YDRE2 Rear End “clunking”
Okay, I replaced the motor bumper today and greased the splines and the noise is now more of a grind than a clunk. It’s unfortunately still there though. I guess the next step is a new input shaft? Or is it the actual motor coupler that needs replacing?

Re: 2017 YDRE2 Rear End “clunking”
Would the input shaft part number JW2-G6320-01-00 for the cart? It’s a 2017 Drive2, but it has the g29 DC motor in it so I would assume it still gets G29 parts? I guess the input shaft would be easier to replace than a motor coupler.
