G 22 engine
As I search for a replacement engine what other engines could be a direct replacement for my G 22
Im sure this has been covered before but I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Since my crank and cam gears are crashed I don't have a rebuildable core to get rebuilt. also im not ready to do a big bore conversion. What engines use the same crank and cam as the G 22 I am trying to get back to running as economical as possible. Any help would be appreciated |

Re: G 22 engine
You could call Don plowman about the new yamaha 402cc motor. It's not too expensive & a definite power upgrade (and bolts in stock location) . As for motors that are directly compatible with yours, G-16, G-23, G-27, G-28, G-29 motors are are all direct bolt in and same style.

Re: G 22 engine
Man, you guys must have "the pick of the worst" , that's not something we see often, even on "old beat up course cars". I see more "wasted dana axles' than I do "wasted 357cc Yamahas". I'm a G22a fan, and when I see a nice "privately owned" g22a, I smile. Itll last a long time. Owners ask why I "added" a 4-year oil change to their service, for the axle. Because it's due & itll keep it going.
If I were to spend "money" on a used cart, I would dream of a nice privately owned (from day 1) G22a. Not some pig from a course that never saw maintenance, ever. It was the "last best" for a while (I'd avoid a "team axle" one, 2007-2014 Ydre), not supported for parts. Sorry, rant over... I have G2 & G9 carts, because they will be around forever, tougher than rocks (but 1994 was last year), so not "fancy enough" to look modern next to a rich neighbors new cart. |

Re: G 22 engine
Well I’m still looking for something before I order a 402.
I think that’s the best option unless someone has something else. Really would like to find another 357 or some affordable parts...crank and cam. Just hard to let go Of big money on a course cart that has lived its whole life in West Texas dirt. |

Re: G 22 engine
Yes, the crank is the same, but the G16 cam doesnt incorporate compression release (not sure how that would affect things).
