Yamaha G2 Build Progress thread
Hi everyone!
I was a member on here years ago for my old '91 Marathon. I cant remember my password from my old account and I no longer use the email address from that account so I can't recover the password. Anyway, This will be a build thread for my new to my Yahama G2? I think it is. It's a G2/G9. Pictures will come. All for now. Ryan |

Some pictures of the golf cart as it sat last summer. I won't be able to get to the cart again until probably next month once the snow melts.
Album link I've since installed the stock gas tank in the stock position and bolted down the GX240 on that steel plate I welded in. Much more to come! |

Re: Yamaha G2 Build Progress thread
Has anyone had any luck using a cast aluminum V-best pulley for their starter/generator? I found one on EBay that seems to be from Vegas Carts but I'm not sure how well it will hold up. The billet pulley was a bit too pricey for me right now with shipping and the poor Canadian Dollar.
Also, due to some cost concerns I'm not using the Comet 780 this time. I instead picked up a primary clutch off a John Deere Gator. Does anyone know of any clutch tuning options for this clutch? |

Re: Yamaha G2 Build Progress thread
I have had mine to 5200 rpms.I don't think balance was the issue. It was the pulleys that failed under high belt tension.Mine must be annealed since I keep my S/G belt fairly tight.

Re: Yamaha G2 Build Progress thread
OK. Interesting. I don't know a lot about Vegas Carts and these cast pulleys. I'll give it a good. I'm not sure I'll use it for starting. I might just use it turn my starter/generator for lighting. I guess I'll have to see what kind of belt tension I need for the starter not to slip.

That clutch will work, as long as it's not the tapered style and is for the 1" straight shaft on your clone. Many of the Gators came with Kawasaki engines and I think they had the tapered crank like on a snowmobile.

Re: Yamaha G2 Build Progress thread
I do have a vegas carts 30mm 10:1 tapered cluitch adapter. By my research the gator clutch (and Kawasaki engines like a club car) use the 30mm 10:1 taper. Do you have to information to the contrary? I don't have the clutch in-hand yet to verify.

Re: Yamaha G2 Build Progress thread
I don't have any info. I was asking you lol. If it's a tapered clutch, then yes you need that adapter. When you install it, make sure the crankshaft, clutch, and adapter are perfectly clean with no oil or grease. It relies heavily on the tension fit and requires that you get the bolt super tight. Even though I was careful with mine, it ended up spinning on the shaft, so I'm not that much of a fan of using the adapter setup. I now have a 780 and I can tell you that it is much easier to install and has a keyway/key to hold it in place.
