Default 1996 Club Car Carry All 1

Hey fellas, I need to either replace or rebuild the drive clutch. I replaced the driven clutch and added a new belt. Now I have no torque climbing hills. So I'm guessing the drive clutch is next. It has the FE290 motor in it. The clutch part number 101637802 sure is expensive. From what i have been reading the 97-04 clutch (101833902) will work and its much cheaper. Is this correct? And will a rebuilt clutch work just as good as a new one? And what puller would ya'll recommend fo pulling the clutch? Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance for all the replies. And a big Thank You For Your Service for all the veterans out there.

Mike

I used a 97-04 on my 93 with no issues or problems at all. Worked great, and I think I paid something like $115 shipped to my door from Amazon.

Oem is better and probably would last longer but I put a TON of miles and hours on my 93 with no problems at all. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

That said, did you have issues climbing hills BEFORE you replaced the driven clutch and belt? Also to be sure, have you checked compression on the engine? Low compression can still run great but lack power

Do make sure you get a good oem belt though. It makes a big difference and lasts a lot longer than the cheap aftermarket ones. The aftermarket ones just don’t last.

Thanks for replying. Yes the cart has been running strong for the amount of hours on it (over 8000). I had to replace the driven clutch because one of the lobes on the cam broke and 2 of the buttons had broke off. It had a great deal of vibration running like that and wanted to fixit before it left me stranded. Its runs good and was climbing hills from a dead stop but not now. The part number for the driven clutch that i ordered was 101636001.

It has a 4" lift with 22" tires and never had any problems before changing the driven clutch.

Was it an oem clutch or aftermarket? If it was climbing hills fine before but not after I would suspect the clutch you replaced is cheap, defective, or the wrong one all together

I would think that a rebuilt one would work like brand new when done right. Like CP241, I've had good results with the aftermarket ones for sale on eBay for less than $150.

The removal tool looks like a long bolt. Choose one that removes Club Car drive clutches from 1988-up. They vary pretty wildly in price but they all appear to be the same, function-wise. The only difference I could see is that some may be made out of stronger material than others.

Here's an example:
