Default Cart Randomly Freezes No Forward Or Reverse

A few days ago my cart started “freezing” where it would not go in forward or reverse. I can hear the click of the solenoid in forward or reverse but nothing happens. Hooked up my computer to the Alltrax SR controller I have and loaded the configuration and it started working. Drove it no problem.

Got back from the drive, backed into the garage, and when I went to finish backing up, nothing. Took the key out and put it back in, flip forward then reverse and it worked.

What could cause this and what areas should I look at to start diagnosing?

Cart details in the signature. Thanks all!

It could be either the main solenoid or the reversing contactor.

Next time you get the problem, measure the voltage across the Solenoid big post to make sure it is 0v when the Solenoid "clicks".

If it is, measure the voltage between Controller M- (meter positive probe) and B- (meter negative probe) to make sure it rises to near pack voltage when the Solenoid "clicks".

Series drive. Is there a fault code displayed on the LED status light when the cart will not go?

Think I may have discovered the issue. To all my DIY brethren out there please do yourself a favor and use tinned wire, marine-grade is best. I am now seeing oxidation and poor connections because of my utilizing non-tinned wire.

Live and learn!

Since I am pulling all the non-stock wiring out and rewiring all my accessories, controller, solenoid, F&R, etc. I have decided to go to 48V and do the Plum Quick Bandit upgrade on my stock motor.

Will see if the rewiring corrects the issue.
