Anybody experiencing "hemorrhagic disease" in your areas?
Here in Virginia, the deer have been hit pretty hard by a disease called "Hemorrhagic disease". The deer basically die from a bite from a gnat or fly. They get a high fever and hang around water to cool off. We've been finding dead deer around ponds and creeks since September. I'm not sure how it will affect the deer harvest counts but I'm not seeing the number of deer I usually see this time of year. At least not live deer.

I haven't heard of it hitting in Tn too bad as of yet. I hope it doesn't either.
Maybe if it does it will only effect the doe's. We are allowed to kill like 40 of them per day now since they are so over populated. |

Somehow this years outbreak is supposed to be related to the drought we've had this year. Did you guys have a drought in TN?

Yea we had a major drought all summer. Alot of towns around us were on major water restrictions and such.. I think the last time that I heard we were like 19 or 21 inches behind our normal rain fall.

We got too much water here, currently 30 inches over what we get normally.

Is this disease one that would hurt a human if he were to kill the deer before it became sick, and then ate the meat ?

Just wondered, because you might shoot an infected deer that isn't showing any signs yet. Guess I'll do a little internet searching and see what I find out.
