Default 97 fe290 head on 95 fe290??

Does anyone know why available new fe290 cylinder heads say they fit 97 and up. Need to know what they changed and why they wouldn't work on all (92& up) fe290s. Thanks

Aloha,
I used a 97 head on an older FE290D, and the only thing I had to do was:
- Dremel down the tabs inside the valve cover so the cover would fit
- Connect the starter/generator to the opposite poles so it would run the right way because the rotation is different

And the other issue was reverse and forward were now backwards because of the different engine rotation. Maybe someone with more knowledge can tell me what I did wrong. The cart works fine, but I guess I probably did do something wrong...

Thanks, I get the modifying the valve cover to fit but not the direction change. Why do the head or valves care what direction the engine spins? I would think that only the cooling fins, cam and ignition timing would be different on a ccw spinning engine.

I personally don't know, but the part numbers for the head and the valve cover are the same same on a 95 and 97 FE290.

That's helpful haven't been able to find a parts list on line for the 95. Sounds like the head should work, thanks.
