Default Club Cart 48 volt Solenoid-diode wiring

Need help with diode orientation. Which side does the band of diode need to be on this solenoid? Large terminal on left side of solenoid is coming from the positive dc from batteries.

Normally the yellow wire is negative on CC. In your picture the banded end of the diode would be towards the small red and the white w/ black wires... see my install diagram below for more info.

Thank you sir. Much appreciated. I understand the band needs to go on the positive side but I didn't know how to determine that.

There is lots of confusion about the + or - side of the solenoid.... the fact is this: there is no + or - side on the solenoid.
That's right, the solenoid itself is not + or -.
You decide by where you attach the + and - solenoid activation wires. The activation wires are the small wires.
Both of the big battery cables are +.

One of the small activation wires is + and the other small wire is -.

The diode simply follows your choice. Banded end goes towards the + activation wire.

Putting it on backwards creates a dead short which results in blown micro switches most of the time.

I hope this helps

Easy way to tell your + and - on your small terminals is to engage the solenoid. ( key on, F - R in F or R, pedal down just enough to hear the solenoid click ) With your multimeter, measure dc voltage across both small terminals. Now reverse the leads. One way you will see a voltage reading. The other, you will have a " - " before your reading. You want to use the reading that has no " - " before it to show you which terminal is which. Where you have your leads placed ( + and - ) will be which terminals are + and -. A lot of times someone has rewired things and not used the original color for the wires. Using this method will always show the terminal polarity!
