Default First time Alltrax install..

Please forgive my ignorance but which is the proper way to attach cables to the controller? The first way seems to have spring to it and not a solid connection.

The lug goes on top of the metal tab.

Keep pressure downward when You are tightening so the nut stays captive in the recess provided and does not twist.

The springing action you are feeling is fine since the electrical connection is between the lug and the thin tab itself.

The diodes make sure they are correct with the stripe on the correct side. And I had the motor wires reversed.

Look at the install diagram in your owners manual. It shows 2 diodes that need to be installed. One is small and short and fits between the 2 small posts on the solenoid (as shown in the manual). Polarity is critical. The stripe on the diode indicates the + end. When installed this end needs to towards the + wire also shown in the install diagram.
The second diode is larger... it comes with every Ezgo and CC XCT controller with instructions to put it on the large terminals. In this application the striped end (+) goes toward the post with the main positive battery cable attached.
I hope this helps
