 Small red wire to controller #1 spade connector
 Small white/black to micro switch F/R switch
Negative Large terminal post
 Large yellow cable to controller B+

Both Large Posts on the Solenoid are "positive", they are just on different sides of a big ON/OFF switch.

Other than that the description of the wires is correct.

You are also missing:
The "Pre-Charge" resistor that goes on the big solenoid posts.
The diode that goes on the small solenoid posts (striped side of the diode on the small post with the red wire to controller terminal #1).

Thanks for the response!
I have the pre-charge resistor on the big solenoid posts, and the diode located between the two smaller posts. The Solenoid is from Scottyb, Super Heavy duty, so the small diode has the red end attached to the side of the solenoid that has the cable running to positive battery #1. I do have a small red wire from the small post going to controller terminal #1, its on the same side as the large post going to battery #1 positive.

The solenoid should have come with install instruction which tells what color wire your positive (+) activation wire is. See below

1997 most likely a regen 1. to get the cart running you can disconnect the driver side solenoid. It is for dynamic braking, cart will run fine without it. I'll let others who know more help with the rest of your problems.
