Default HI, I'm new with questions on my 82 EZ GO.

HI,
So glad to have found this forum and anjoying very much sifting through the many posts. Anxious to see more photo's.

I recently purchased a fixed 82 EZ GO for 50 bucks. It wasn't running and has some cosmetic issues. With the exhaust bolted back on and the belt tightened up it gets around the block now.

We're running 1 oz to 1 gal in the 2 stroke engine. Since we added fuel and hooked the exhaust back up it's been backfiring. Short of maybe a block in the exhaust we missed I'm not sure yet what else could be the cause.

I don't know much about carts but was told by a repair shop this morning we stopped at that the engine in the cart was good for about half a mile and any further in one session it would likely overheat.

OK I was hoping for a little better distance and performance if I so desired so I am thinking of the possibility of another engine. Does anyone know anything that is a good, relatively easy swap for this cart?

Thanks in advance! Looking foreward to reading much more!

WELCOME! Maybe that is a 1/2 mile of WOT? Seems to me that alot of older 2 strokes are getting around just fine. I drive mine a 1 mile trip all the time? I do try to avoid prolonged steady throttle position...just a habit aquired after seizing some old 2 stroke dirt bikes! But Hey, I run the leaf blower the same way. I don't know of any other engine that would work better in your cart, as it has no forward / reverse. The 2 stroke motor is the only one which will start backwards to give it reverse. If a 4 stroke motor is used you will give up any reverse.
