Rebuild or Replace Rear End?
My new to me 2005 EZGO TXT Series still has a lot of gear noise from the rear end when coasting. I replaced the input shaft (visibly worn). The new input shaft helped, but I’ve still got a problem. The neighbors know when I'm coming because they can hear me from two blocks away.
I'm thinking the whole differential is shot. Anybody had a similar problem? Any advice on the best way to resolve the problem so I can get on with the more fun upgrades is appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Rebuild or Replace Rear End?
IMHO....first take into account the time and MONEY you already spent.
Did you inspect the rest of the gears in the rear end when you were in there? how did they look? IF they looked ok, but you still have the noise, the most likely reason is you have worn out bearings. source out the cost of replacing ALL of the bearings in the rear end, even the ones at the ends AND the seals. IF the other gears are a little chewed up, what would be their cost to replace..... add all that up and come up with a figure to do a total rebuild of your rear end. THEN source a rebuilt rear end, one that you KNOW has all good parts, and compare the two prices. then you make your choice of what direction you need to go. |

Re: Rebuild or Replace Rear End?
Concur. I replaced every bearing, which helped a little, but still have the coasting noise.

Re: Rebuild or Replace Rear End?
You only did the input shaft and not the motor coupler? Its a must to do the coupler too to get rid of the back lash noise.
Its extremely rare to have to change an entire rear end. If you said its was run out of gear oil, then I would agree on a change out. But is your just chasing back lash noise, change the coupler too. |

Re: Rebuild or Replace Rear End?
No motor coupler on an ezgo. Motor shaft slides over input shaft. Now did you change the bumper plug in the coupling?
