would like to add a 12v boost with switch to 79 resistor cart
I would like to add a 12v Boost to my 36v resistor cart . I would like it to be activated by a switch that I hit after full throttle. My question is can I wire this in between any of the batteries that are in series just by attaching new cables to the pos and neg with a swicth or solenoid with out disconnecting the existing able in the 36v series. This is really hard to ask and describe properly. Anyone who may have done this do you have a simple drawing or schematic of how you did it. I think this is also know as a "Nate boost" everywhere i search for it the links to the schematic don't come up. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Re: would like to add a 12v boost with switch to 79 resistor cart
PM Roady, he has a diagram for it. I went back and checked old post and diagram is gone again. For 12 additional volts you don't really need to use the "boost". I ran 48v on my 82 ezgo for several months with no problems. Just add two additional 6v batteries either at the front or back of battery pack. If install in front, move charger receptle wire to #3 battery. If install at end of pack leave charger wires where they are. Use additional 12v charger on new batteries. Gorno has good pics on adding 12volts.

You don't need the boost at all if your just adding 12 volts. You can just add the battery in series with the others but I reccommend getting a 48 volt solenoid. I have ran the 36 volt solenoids on 48 and some last forever and some wont last a day.

Roady, why does that diagram keep hiding itself for the boost?

Re: would like to add a 12v boost with switch to 79 resistor cart
Well thanks for the replies. the reason I wanted to set it up like the boost is that I really don;t mind just cruising around with 36v but would like to be able to hit a switch to get me up the driveway and small hills as they come up. The slower cruising speed of the 36v is actually preferable for my small 1 acre yard. I also wanted the option of adding batteries for up to a nother 36v boost. I just wish the diagram was available some where so I could see exactly how to set it up. I have an idea of how to do it but I am not sure if adding the extra batts in line with a switch would work with out separating the cable that is in the series already. Again it is hard to explain with out a picture. Please if anyone has or can draw up how to do it please post. Thanks alot.

Re: would like to add a 12v boost with switch to 79 resistor cart
Thanks scottyb That seems to be what I am looking for. I do have a question about what is the box with the B+, M- and B- , is that the controller? I have a resistor cart but would this diagram work somehow with a resistor cart ? Again thanks alot I am getting closer to wiring this up, I think .

Re: would like to add a 12v boost with switch to 79 resistor cart
That diagram is for a controller boost. It is not like Nate's boost. Nate's Boost is different in a couple of ways. You run 6 12 volt batteries but the pack is split....there are two 36 volt packs and when in boost mode it is switched from parrallel to series to one 72 volt pack.
Seriously...if your only running 48 volts you don't need any kind of boost. Just run the pack in series for a total of 48 volts. The diode I use is around $70 ( Nate boost uses 2 I think) and the solenoid is $120+....if you don't those high quality parts you are asking for trouble. Stock stuff won't hold up. |

Re: would like to add a 12v boost with switch to 79 resistor cart
Thanks Roady.
The conversion from 36v to 48v is simple and relatively painless (cheap enough) for a series cart. You will have plenty of hill climbing ability and more speed. |
