Default Tomberlin Motor (Armature grounded out)

My Tomberlin motor was sent off for suspected motor issues. Come to find out the Armature is grounded out. I suppose the motor is totally shot now. Anyone have an experience on how this happens? I did have a poor battery pack that I have since changed out. The shop does not think the motor is worth saving.

Just trying to learn more about these little beast!
