Default Ezgo pds

Can you run 42v on the stock controller? I also keep reading about theses freedom chips for the pds carts, what are you they and where do they go? Thanks

I can’t speak to the higher voltage, but the Freedom Chips can be bought from the site sponsor or from amazon for less than 10 bucks. There is a plug on the controller that accepts the “chip” and instructions on how to get the controller to recognize it are usually included. It is basically just 2 jumpers in a molex plug, not really a chip.

Yes, but it doesn't do much good since the PDS controller limits the motor to about 4400RPM (or less depending on which mode it is in), about 19MPH on stock height (18") tires.
Attached are the speed "chips" and what they do to performance.

Drop an Alltrax XCT48400PDS controller in it and it'll do about 24MPH at 36V and about 28MPH at 42V.

So does the REGEN pedal up feature actually put power back into the pack? I ha e always wondered.

Thanks for the info. I'm not looking to spend much on this cart, picked it up with dead Batts for 300$ put some older batteries in it and got it going and have a couple extra batteries around and was looking for just a little more umph.
Have a club car with a DD torque motor and 600 amp controller for when I need power.

Don't drive the PDS around too much. The ride will spoil ya.

Yes, some of the power used to get to speed is put back into battery pack.

IIRC, my range was about 10% further in Mild Hill (mild regen) mode than it was in Freedom (no regen) mode. Of course the higher speed in Freedom mode was a contributing factor also.

I never checked the range with and without regen while running a DCX controller or with the XCT I'm running now, but with both I've used regen braking to slow the cart down before applying the foot brakes, saving wear and tear on mechanical brake and recycling some energy in the process.

The XCT uses RPM data from motor to increase the amount of field current as the cart slows, so regen braking exists almost down to a standstill. With the stock PDS controller and the aftermarket DCX controller regen braking ceased to exist under about 10MPH.

Thanks for all that info! I have tried to look it up myself but I haven’t found any real answers.
