2004 Precedent burning too much fuel
Hey guys.
Been looking for answers for a long time on this. My 2004 Precedent has been getting terrible gas mileage and a real strong gas smell. I've taken the carb apart and cleaned it and it didn't help. Are there any carb adjustments to be made? What could be causing the strong gas smell and the terrible fuel mileage? I just need a direction to go. all help appreciated |

Re: 2004 Precedent burning too much fuel
Can it breathe? Is the air filter clogged? Is there any obstruction in the air filter box or the tubing that goes to/from the box?
Typically a dirty carb would make it run too lean. Tonget a rich fuel mixture you would have a stuck float allowing too much fuel in, or possibly a clogged fuel tank vent that is forcing fuel into the carb under pressure as the tank warms and the vapor in the tank expands. That would be pretty unlikely, but worth the few minutes to check the tank vents and the vent tube from the carb to the frame to any blockage. Another possibility would be damaged piston rings, but you would probably have a lot of blue smoke as well if that was the case. |
