Wiring an MP3 amp and Speakers (Sep 12 volt battery or not)
I just purchased an amp and speakers for my new (refurb) EZ GO "sparky". This site has been a WEALTH of information during the purchase process as well as adding a volt meter and other items so THANK YOU to all who post!
Here is the "system" I bought... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NHdx9xs...e-MP3-Kit.html My questions is, am I better off wiring this directly to the battery bank (2 of the batteries, right) or should I add a 12 volt Marine battery to wire this up to?? If adding the 12 volt is the better idea, is there a way to recharge the added 12 volt with cart charger or will I have to charge that battery separately?? Lastly, is there an easy way to install a toggle switch to the amp so that it can be turned OFF and not drain on whichever battery I hook it to? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I like using a seperate battery so you dont kill your main pack. I put a battery tender on top of my 12 volt battery and just plug it in when I charge the cart.

The unit shown has 15 watts/channel and is considered by me to be low power, so, using 2-6v batteries from the pack would be a good cheap solution. $0
Next best would be a seperate 12v deep cycle battery. Charge this battery seperately. $75 + $50 for a charger if you don't have one Best option would be a high output 36-12v convertor. $??? |

gornoman,
Do you think I'll have a noticeable drain on the bank from this? Also, any ideas or thought on the toggle switch? Thanks for the input thus far!!!! |

Re: Wiring an MP3 amp and Speakers (Sep 12 volt battery or not)
Look at it this way. If you use 2-6v batteries from the pack you will know in a few weeks if there is a problem simply by monitoring the voltage of each battery (something every sparky owner should be doing anyway). If those 2 batteries are loosing ground to the rest of the pack, then you can look at spending money on a solution.
A simple toggle switch in the positive power lead will cut the amp on and off at your command. |

I have the poly planar mp3 stereo. I use a voltage converter so it uses all six batteries. I added a 3 way ezgo key switch and used the second position to power the converter (powers lights and amp). I still use a push pull switch for the lights.
