I'd rather put that money in a 36v-48v Navitas or Alltrax so I can slowly upgrade to 48v. The guys in the shop there said even with the battery disconnected, the resistor has enough residual current that if you touch the B+ and B- with a wrench, it could short out the controller. Not sure if that's accurate or not but that's what they told me.
That would be a repaired controller on top of that. You will be better off with an Alltrax or Navitas. The capacitors hold enough for a good spark. I guess there could have been enough juice to take out the control. The smell is proof enough.

Still cheaper than the boneyard I was at yesterday. But agree, that is a little steep. I found the 600a Navitas for 699 at golf carts modfied which looked to be the best price i could find. I'd need the HD solenoid too. I've almost convinced myself to just bite the bullet.

Thanks again for all the help troubleshooting this. I did end up buying the tsx 3.0 600amp Navitas along with an HD solenoid. Got it installed yesterday after work and much to my disappointment, I still do not have a functional cart. I just shot a quick video that i'm going to post up on youtube today i hope. I have reverse but when i switch to forward and hit the pedal partially, nothing happens. If I fully depress the pedal, I get a slight reverse of the wheels (off the ground) and it's like the controller loses power briefly because I lose connectivity in the app and have to cycle the key on and off the reconnect. I'm wondering if, in the process of upgrading the armature wires, I've broken something down in the motor because both studs moved ever so slightly, maybe an 8th of an inch. Motor is a Advanced DC Motors DE2-4007

Maybe I should start a new thread.

Here's a link to a video I just uploaded:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amPVkM5cwd8

I checked continuity on a few things.
The FNR switch checked out ok, continuity on middle and outside with the switch one way and no continuity if I throw the switch the other way unless I move to the other outside blade.

On the motor, I have continuity between A1 and A2, and F1 and F2 but not between A's or F's. Also, no continuity between any of them and the case of the motor. These test were with all wires disconnected from the controller.

I watched your video. The speed sensor thing is normal with Navitas. It's sensing motion and engages the solenoid for regenerative braking.
The fault you are getting in forward is low voltage. You need to figure out where you're losing voltage at between the controller and battery pack. Also check the voltage at the battery pack when you try to go forward. A battery could be dropping under the load.
Nothing else, now that you have the Navitas installed, give them a call. Their customer service is pretty good.
