I think this engine is too old to have a 6 pulse coil, but I really don't know. I have tried to read up on tachs but I can't seem to get any solid info. Need a BGW like site for snowmobiles.Back when I had to travel up to johnstown ny those guys were really into the snowmobiles. They all seemed to have one or two.

Yrah its a shunt regulator, I did some looking and the $5 radioshack rectifier is 100v and 25 amp but good luck finding a radioshack lol.

Just look for a rectifier/regulator combo for around 15amp or so, id still run the engine and find the max ac volts but I bet a 50v - 100v would be fine. If the voltage output is arpund 18 you might not even need a regulator.

After Many hours with the plasma cutter I finally have the engine mostly were it will sit.I don't think this swap is going to be as easy as I had envisioned.

Have you developed an engine cradle yet? It looks like your doing pretty good so far. Nothing is as simple as we think it is after the torch is lite and the dark glasses go down. I want 4 wheel disc brakes. You wouldn't believe the breakdown of parts. Don't get discouraged - your doing great.

Did a spark test today and found none. Back traced it to the white wire into the coil. Don't know if shipping,me, or old age did it in.Ordered a new coil. Also laid out my exhaust plan. Going to try the early stock harley muffler I bought for the cart clamped to the suzuki header. Hope this works. If not probably going to get REAL complicated and expensive.

Got the new coil from lion powersports for the 440 F/C. $27 delivered and it was a direct bolt in.Nice hot blue spark. Also put in new set of NGK spark plugs. Very hot and muggy here today so no further progress right now.

My 55 mm exhaust clamp from Audi arrived this afternoon. I found this part on Ebay and it looks like the right part for the job. At $15 delivered it seems to be a real deal. I brazed a 2 1/4" O.D. tube over the stock Harley inlet to match up with 440 F/C header outlet .I like to braze experiments rather than weld them in case the need to come apart due to a miscalculation. The Audi clamp was the right I.D. and is plenty beefy as I do expect this will be the critical area for the exhaust system.

Finally cool enough here to start on outside cart work. I made up the passenger side mounts out of 1/4 steel plates that sandwich the original Harley mount that was sectioned down. I have some adjustment for belt tension and can shim the front mount to get the angle of the engine parallel to the secondary pulley. LOTS of do and undo to get this just so. Still need to fab up drivers side. Stay tuned.

Here is the muffler roughed in with the 440 FC header. I don't know how quiet or restrictive this early Harley muffler will be with the 440. But it is new and paid for so let us see what happens.
