Default Head and tail lights

I hooked headlights up directly to battery with and inline fuse. Worked outstanding. I got taillights hooked into the same switch. While riding at night the fuse on the motor blows out and renders front and rear lights inoperable and the cart wont run. Why if the lights are wired directly to battery would it blow cart fuse and the lights then not work if they are still hooked up directly to battery. I figure if the lights are direct to battery at least they should still work but they wont until cart fuse is changed. Thanks for any help

On a Yamaha the fuse is between the ground of the battery and the frame of the cart. Do not ground the lights to the frame. Run a separate ground from the lights to to battery neg and put a fuse on the power to the lights.

The tail lights current draw was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak.

Never ground to the frame..
