Default G16 clone exhaust too loud

Ok, I'm new to the forum world so bare with me. I installed a 460cc clone in my G16. Everything is running great however the exhaust is louder than I would like. I have a straight header with a simple lawn mower exhaust welded on. I'm looking for ideas to quiet it down. I am more interested in torque than top end speed...any suggestions? I will try to post a pic of my install. Thanks!

the stock muffler for a g16 is really quiet,, almost 2 quiet;; you could prob, find a used one,, also there are many lawn mower ones that will work.. some say there is a back pressure, 2 be considered. and maybe so.. i think if the muffler is the appropriate size it should be ok''

You need a chambered muffler, they are usually larger and/or odd shaped and the pipe does not go straight through. You can find a small car muffler, larger lawn muffler, or a generator muffler. I would suggest you use one good for at least the HP your engine has and more if you run no governor or hop it up a little. You can burn the exhaust valve and cause overheating unless you never rev it up, if you use a lower HP (lower flow) muffler. There are some threads in the clone section about exhausts. I used a car muffler it sounds like a utv more or less, its louder but not more than a typical garden tractor. It is very quiet at low throttle. It has no tailpipe that would help a car muffler be quieter yet. I would never recommend the stock 10hp muffler used on a clone 15hp 420/440/460 unless you keep the governor on it and just putt around slowly with it. You can get another one and run them parallel if you have room, or mod the muffler for more flow.
