Speeding Up A Ezgo St
We just got a 08 ST and would like to get a little more speed out of it without messing with the gov. or completely tearing the cart apart. Not looking to go too fast just want to get the stock 18.5mph to more like 25+mph. The cart has an 11 HP Subaru engine in it. What are my options?

Re: Speeding Up A Ezgo St
The only way to get more speed and stay stock is adjust or bypass the governor. If your governor is setup like most ST's, you can simply take out the spring and replace it with nuts or some type of spacer and then tighten the 10mm nut back down.

Re: Speeding Up A Ezgo St
You will have to adjust the govenor at the back of the cart, lying on the ground. It is above the transmission case - DO NOT remove the factory service plate located on the top - it may void your warranty, unless your dealership is as cool as us. You will need some needle nose vise grips to clamp the shaft in between the spring, plus a 3/8" deep socket. Screw the nylock nut in until there is about 3/4" to 1" of the threads showing. GO NO FURTHER. Your EZGO dealership should have known how to do this? You should get to around 22 mph with this adjustment. Take your time and don't go all the way on the first try, make small adjustments and drive between each adjustment. 25 mph is too much to ask for on a new cart with a 2 year warranty...

Re: Speeding Up A Ezgo St
What about a 8:1 gear ratio in the rear, and where can I get them?

You can do this but it will be costly. It will more than likely really decrease your torque with a stock setup. The good thing about the ST's though, most of them have a torque clutch (or heavier duty spring in the rear clutch). I would suggest a shorter wider belt with the speed gears.

Re: Speeding Up A Ezgo St
I thought about the warranty issue, but this cart is going to the Bahamas. I don't know if the warranty would do me any good there. Not too worried about the torque either since the island we visit is rather flat. I replaced the gears in my CC not too long ago. How much difference is there between the ezgo and the club car gear box? Will I need to get the gears pressed off/on like I did with the CC? Thanks for the help by the way!!!

Re: Speeding Up A Ezgo St
No - completely different than a CC. Not too hard of a job. Just order a transmission case gasket for the job

While your ordering a transmission case gasket add a big block to your order.
