Electrical short to DS Chassis
2002 Club Car DS 48V electric, with the chassis showing 44V!
Fully charged batteries showing 52V. Multimeter with neg on battery and pos probe anywhere on chassis = 44V This explains why I've blown the guts out of two stereos despite voltage reducer and fuse box.. Batteries are brand new and clean, so it's not ghost voltage as mentioned in the 2011 thread. Cart is running normally apart from occasional jerky starts which may be an MCOR on the way out. Couldn't find any wires touching the chassis. Reverse buzzer is mercifully disconnected ever sines I got the cart. I pulled the dash and couldn't find anything touching chassis. Horn has a plastic casing. Trying to isolate the source of the voltage: Removed the voltage reducer and the 'battery extender'- voltage still there Removed all smaller wires from battery stack (horn and voltage meter)- voltage still there (relieved at least that this eliminated all my own wiring) Disconnected the motor- voltage still there Disconnected the positive lead from the battery stack- voltage gone Disconnected after Solenoid- voltage gone This suggests the leak is coming from the Controller box. Yikes! Any experiences similar to this or suggestions on how to cheaply fix? I'd really like to be able to reinstall the reducer and a stereo, and probably lights in the future, so I need to find and fix the short! Could this also have been the reason the old batteries were stuffed when I bought the cart? Cheers from Australia, Mo Last edited by Morjus; 09-17-2017 at 12:26 AM.. Reason: More info |

Re: Electrical short to DS Chassis
Hey Morjus welcome to BGW. Check the wire to key switch and reverse buzzer to see if something is shorting out there.
I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me for your cart. But, whatever it is, is being carried by something after the pre-charge resistor across the solenoid. Perhaps some experts will chime in on this. Edit: If I am looking at the right diagram check the yellow wire to the controller closely. |

Re: Electrical short to DS Chassis
Thanks for replying.
Buzzer has always been disconnected and I couldn't find anything unusual behind the dash panel. Have removed the Controller mounting bolts and it seems to be also stuck to the wall with double sided tape. Is this normal? I future if I can have it connected but not touching the chassis, that's the next thing to eliminate |

Re: Electrical short to DS Chassis
Look at my edited post above. Check the yellow to the controller. Make sure it is not touching frame or have a bad spot on the wire that could.

Re: Electrical short to DS Chassis
Not sure how you disconnected solenoid. If Reverse buzzer wire under dash is touching frame that could be it. Check it.

Re: Electrical short to DS Chassis
Disconnected yellow from Solenoid to Controller. No voltage. That's why I ruled it out.
Disconnected green to motor. Still live. That's why I'm focusing on Controller |

Re: Electrical short to DS Chassis
Surely the buzzer wires would only be 12 volt?

The controller touching chassis is normal.
