Default powerdrive 2

my neighbor came over to see if I could look at his charger, It's a power drive 2 48 volt for his club car DS. When you plug it into the cart it hums for about 10 seconds then the breaker trips.
In the mean time he can still charge his cart because I have a loner charger that works perfect. In fact it's on his cart now.

Does the ammeter go up at all or does it stay at 0?
Usually this is either a failed breaker, or a failed diode set or rectifier. I think the PD2 should have the big diode set mounted to the rear of the case. Unhook the wires from them and test them with a multimeter/diode tester.

Rectifier is tested the same way with the diode test function of a multimeter. One AC terminal is paired with the DC+ and one AC terminal is paired with the DC- terminal. Also make sure all of the spade terminal connections are tight and clean, and no burned wire ends or terminals.

I put a new ac power cord on it, cut off about 4 inches of the dc output cord as they were both being pulled out of the charger and the ac cord showed signs of over heating, replaced the rectifier and the charger is back up and running.

Thank you so much for your help.
