Re: Planning Engine Swap
Dipstick tube is # 693174
Depending on engine year, there are two tube grommet seals available 693172 281370S I had to order both seals since I don't know my engine year |

Re: Planning Engine Swap
Look on the side of the valve covers for some engraved numbers. Should have a date code.

Re: Planning Engine Swap
Every Briggs engine I have worked on has a code stamped in the tin covers. It give you the year, crank type and other details on the engine?

Re: Planning Engine Swap
I also bought a scrap $60 18hp Briggs for parts
That engine also doesn't have anything on the valve covers |

Re: Planning Engine Swap
I once bought a 23hp Briggs that was "unbranded", which meant that it didn't have any "Briggs" insignias or labels. With that said, it had a stamped tag with Briggs numbers on it on the tins. If yours doesn't have any numbers, I'm wondering if someone removed them, but why. Wierd.

Re: Planning Engine Swap
Strange yes, made an interesting project not knowing the specific model number
In the end for a $200 purchase, I knew I had time since this is a winter project. I have all receipts but even with having spent $60 on a complete broke Briggs 18hp parts engine I'm still well under $400 in to the good 18hp engine Will be much cheaper in the end compared to spending $1,000 to $1,500 for a new engine Plus I sold my stock engine for $500 |
