Starting hesitation, dead battery, minor performance mods
I just bought a 1999 CC "GC" model. As best I can tell, it looks to be the Villager 8 transporter. Very little is known about the cart's previous history.
It's a mini-business on the side, where I rent the cart out and the drivers pick passengers up and move them from bar-to-bar for tips only. When it's not rented, I take to subway, grocery, joy rides, etc. I've had 15 people piled on this bad boy. The cart hesitates when I first start it, and when it sits at a stop light for a while and has to start back up. I'm wondering if this is due to the battery being dead'ish. I used a multimeter and the generator came back charging at 13.7volts...so I'm not sure why the battery would die (Aug 12 is date on it). I have a radio installed and it's just a 660 cca car battery it looks like. Any good battery recommendations? I was thinking two deep cycle marine batteries in parallel. Also, I read the mods section for speed...but I'm on the cautious side for things like governor mods. I'm thinking KNN air filter and new carb jet. Any advice on the simplest/safest mods to put on if money is not an object? I've replaced the 3 fuel filters already. I'm also looking at a solar panel setup for ~$150 total to keep the battery(ies) charged. Do they make better performance generators for these as I can't have power issues with the radio playing while the cart might be idling and only putting out ~12volts. |
