Default Changing from 12v to 8v batteries

I would like to change from 4 12v batteries to 6 8v batt. Due to all 4 batteries being bad would it be a good time to change or stay with the 4 12's Anything else have to changed on the cart.

So would I, but the year of the Precedent matters because you'll have to modify the bucket or install a different one for the 8 volts to fit.
