Default Onward Electric Speed Code DETAILS PLEASE!!

We have a tech coming out next week to turn down our self-braking etc on our new Onward.

Can someone give me precise details on the speed code settings available?

Our cart goes 19mph according to my GPS app. downhill.
Uphill with one adult and two kids, I've seen 11, 15, 16mph on GPS.

Would like to see a little more speed for the uphills so we aren't a nuisance in our 20mph community. Thought we had a default code 3? but the dealer said if I'm seeing 19mph I'm probably already on speed code 4.
Was going to switch to code 4, but sounds like we already may be on it.

I'm confused.

Speed Setting 3 = 14.8 MPH
Speed Setting 4 = 19.2 MPH

You want to test the speed on flat ground, one passenger, fully charged. A speed code is just an RPM limitation that with stock 18" tires will yield the posted MPH. So taller tires would yield a faster cart due to the FD ratio change....

Speed code 4 limits the speed to 19mph when used with stock 18" diameter tires.

The cart will go faster if lifted with bigger tires like 23".

Do You have stock sized tires?

Speed code 4 will not increase torque so uphill speed should not be affected.

A new controller will increase both speed and torque and allow you to configure it and customize it using a laptop and free software without having to pay someone to do it for you.

What both of these guys said is spot on. However, it sounds like you may have the same misconception of the speed code 4 as a lot of other people do. You mention your uphill speeds. The high speed code is not going to help at all with that. The speed setting is simply a pre-determined maximum RPM that the cart is allowed to run. When you're running below that speed nothing is changed. If you want more speed climbing hills, you're going to need a motor and/or controller upgrade package.

Got it. All makes sense and thanks for the replies.

Yes, everything is stock for now. Lifted onward with 23” tires.

Will leave the speed code as is since clearly we are on code 4 already. Only thing we will tweak is the self-braking settings. I’ll look into controllers for more performance.
