1989 2 stroke ex go revs high moves slow.
I recently purchased a 1989 2 stroke ez go for dirt cheap. It's a fairly decent cart for the price, but has one issue that I am at this time struggling with. When pressing the gas it moves right away with no hesitation however it moves slow. The engine revs up as it should but the speed only ever so slightly increases. Under load it never does seem to get much more than walking speed. I jacked it up and pulled the seat, the clutchs seem to work but with little to no knowledge of golf carts, they seem slow to move as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like clutch problems for sure. When the engine is at full speed the drive clutch (the one on the engine) should close all the way, and the driven clutch should open up so the belt travels toward the bottom of it.

If you're having clutch issues, I would get them resolved before wrecking a new belt. Bad clutch can kill a belt fast!
Remove the clutches (both if possible). Inspect the ramp buttons on the secondary clutch (the one on the rear end). take the primary clutch apart as far as you can, clean it up (it's probably got rust, corrosion, or dirt/gunk preventing it from moving freely). see what you're really working with before you damage something, it's not going to fix itself so driving it like it is will only complicate matters. |

The driven clutch (secondary) should slide right off when removing the center bolt, The drive clutch (engine/primary) will require a puller
