Default 87 Gas Marathon Losses power when warm

I have an 87' Marathon Gas that losses power after about 15 minutes of driving. Cools down and runs again. Is this maybe in the coil (isn't hot) or? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Does it still run? Does it get sluggish, or die completely?

It has no power. It won't turn over. It acts like the battery is dead but it's a new deep cycle battery and shows 12.55 volts when this happens. It's still getting fuel as well. I just put rings in it also thinking they were tightening up in the cylinder. But no dice.

Sorry I didn't really answer your question but this happens while going down the road. It dies instantly and looses all power. After about 30 minutes it runs fine again.

The deep cycle battery isn't helping. It sounds like the solenoid is getting hot and disengaging. Is it a continuous duty golf cart solenoid?

I'm not even sure what the solenoid is. Is there a way to test it? Why is the deep cycle battery not helping? Sorry for my ignorance.

Also if it's relevant, years ago I replaced the stock ignitor with an HEI GM 4 Pin Module and High Output 12 Volt Ignition Coil. Found the solenoid also. Duh?!

Follow the positive battery cable to a round cylinder. It will have two large cable lugs, and two small terminals. That is the solenoid.

There is a guy in the electric forums named JohnnieB. He is a true battery expert. Ask him about battery charging profiles. See what he says about deep cycle batteries in gas carts. I'm not versed enough on it to say if it's a problem, or not.

I do know one thing. Your issue is way before it even gets to the coil, or ignition system. It's in the activation circuit. That is the battery, solenoid, starter, key switch, fuse, pedal switch, and neutral safety switch. My money is on battery, or solenoid.

JohnnieB profile. https://buggiesgonewild.com/member.php?u=42183

EDIT: I really shouldn't have lumped the starter in with the activation circuit. it is really part of the starting, and charging circuit.
