Default Small fire, how do I test the Controller?

Hey guys, I was washing my cart the other day and cleaned the batteries as I have done in years past.... not sure what happend, but something got wet and the soleniod connections caught fire! It stopped once the wires were burned in 2. The wire that goes back to the controller is melted, it's the same one that hooks to one side of the diode. How do I test the controller before I buy a new soleniod and hook everythign up and smoke another soleniod because I didn't find the problem in the first place?
