Default 89 ezgo gas starter problems

hi guy's.im new here and have been having trouble with the starter on my cart.i just had the starter generator rebuilt by a local shop and he says it should be fine.when i installed it and hit the gas pedal the starter trys to go but the solenoid clicks rapidly and it wont start, this problem has been there intermittently for years and i hoped the starter would fix it.can anyone offer some ideas as to what to look at now?im about ready to replace every wire ,cable and switch i can find!
thanks

I had a similar problem with my build, I did not have a ground wire ran from the battery to the frame to engine to the starter/gen. that is typically how they are wired.

from starter/gen to the engine block to the frame and then to the battery ground post. check that out it might be it.

my cart would roll over really slow and solonoid would click.
hope this helps
