Using Charger With Portable Generator
I've got a 2003 48V Club Car that we use at the race track. I've found that every time I try to charge the batteries directly off the Honda EU2000i that it won't charge the batteries. If I plug the charger into a household 120VAC source it charges fine. Any ideas why this is happening? I did some searching around the net and found a couple people had similar issues but didn't see any concrete answers. One said if he plugged the charger into a plug on his camper that was being powered by a generator, it worked fine but as soon as he plugged it directly into the generator it wouldn't function and actually drained the battery.
Anyone else run into this or hear of it? I haven't tried plugging into the race trailer with the generator plugged into the trailer yet. |

Make sure you turn the eco-throttle off when powering the battery charger.

Re: Using Charger With Portable Generator
With the inverter technology I'm thinking it doesn't have a true Sine-Wave output.

Re: Using Charger With Portable Generator
Are you running anything else on the generator at the same time? It is rated for 13amps continuous duty and the charger uses 10amps, so you don't have a lot of wiggle room there!

Any results on this? I'm interested in doing this on a 6000 acre hunting lease , more run time is important.

Re: Using Charger With Portable Generator
You need a inverter not a generator. Generators give out a different wave forum. I had the same problem. Then I hooked up my 2000 watt Honeywell inverter and it works like a champ.

Re: Using Charger With Portable Generator
If the generator is a regular 120/220 volt output and can carry the load it should work just fine. In the military a few years ago and far away we had 24 volt DC generators. They would charge out vehicles which were 24 volt systems they were used to power radio vehicles.
On edit. I just looked up that generator. It is only rated to a load of about 13 amps. Not sure the amps the charger pulls. Maybe 15? On 2nd edit Just looked up power requirements for pd3 charger it is min 15 amps. |

Re: Using Charger With Portable Generator
it could be amp related but my generator is a 5000 watt and it wouldnt work with mine. but my inverter is only 2000 watts and it works just fine. So i just figured it was the wave fourm.

Re: Using Charger With Portable Generator
I have a 7000 watt generator, I will check to see if my pd 3 works with it. I know it will run my mig welder on 220 v or 120 v. It is a miller 211.
