Default 1982 g1

I just got a 1982 g1, really didnt know what i was getting into untill i tried getting an engine rebuild kit. Kinda of confusing some sites say this kit fits up to a 1981 and other kits say from 1983 and up,why did they do this and where can i find the kit i need, thanks

In 82 the changed the cylinder head uses different intake and exhaust. I had one I was just lucky that mine ran good. They also had lower compresson

do you think that would be the only diff,wonder if the bottom end rebuild kit for 1981 or 1983 would be the same any help,advice.
should i just give up on the 1982

I know my serial # for cart is an 1982 model any ideal on how to tell if original motor
serial # on motor. Its almost 30 years old just wondering if motor could have been changed out

The engine could very well have been changed out. One of my G1's is a real mixmaster of parts from several different years. It was like that when I bought it. Someone obviously had several old carts that he put together to make one.

The lower ends are basically the same for all G1's, just the top end is different on 1982 models. Look on the side of the cylinder and see what number is cast into the flange where the cylinder bolts to the crankcase. It should be Jxx-xxxxx. That will tell us what you have. A J17 engine would be from 1982.

This is not the original engine for this cart. J10 series was the first of the G1's, so your engine was made somewhere from 1979-81. You shouldn't have any problem getting parts for the engine.
