Default 440 Crank/Rod/Piston?

Well after my predator 420 threw the rod i picked up a 440 case & flat top piston from my buddy who had bought it from slonomo- it came in a box of spare parts in addition to a 460 which he put in his cart. I cleaned up the case and i ordered a new crank, billet rod and new ring for the piston. Upon arrival of the parts i did a dry fitment- the piston sticks above the deck by right about .175" ! there is not enough meat on the piston to even mill it down. i think i can send the rod back and exchange it for a 4.4100" one to cut that down to .075" which this piston still dont have enough meat to mill it down that much- do i have the correct crank, rod , piston?

Crank - 69mm Stroker Crank (+.200")
Rod - Billet Rod 4.510" (+.100")
Piston - Unknown - Cast Flat Top - .1115" From top to top ring groove, approx 1.025" From top of piston to piston pin center.
Case - Not 100% But was told its a 440 Case- Original Vegas carts 440 block?, Number On Block is :WY190FB/P*130701267*

I Dont know if the cylinder bore on this block is shorter or what the deal is- the 69mm stroker crank fit in my predator 420 with no issues- i had the stock rod and 90mm dished piston which i had to turn down some to get it to zero deck height. i know the 440 uses a 66mm stroke crank, same as the 420.

is there a piston i can buy that will allow me to run the stroker crank shaft if i exchange the rod for the 4.410" unit? will the dished piston work? also anyone know where i can purchase a 92mm dished piston? they sold out everywhere i can find online.

or

can i swap the crank to the regular 66mm stroke, use the 4.510" rod and the flat top piston? vegas carts site listing for the flat top piston says works in 440 blocks with the 4.510" rod. also anyone know a source for a stock 66mm stroke 420/440 crank?

Wouldn't it be easier and safer to buy a new 460 block from VC or Paulscarts rather than building some one off ?

That 2nd gen block was designed to work with the standard (66mm)crank, not 460 (69mm) crank. That's why I upgraded and ended up with the other engine. To make it work you need a standard crank. I believe you might need the shorter connecting rod as well. Geeze I might have one out in the shop, but the crank is cut to use with a tapered clutch.

10-4 that’s what I was gathering. 66mm crank. Ryan has that other crank I saw it in the box of extra parts from you- I have my cut predator 420 crank also, that’s what started all this I swapped the crank so I could run the comet 780 clutch!

It looks like the quickest, easiest, best fix would be to do like ray suggested and get a 460 block.

Can you just have the top of the piston machined down?

There is not enough meat- the whole entire top compression ring is above the cylinder deck.

I don’t know why I was thinking the 440 and 460 used the same block but different cranks. I figured by putting the 69mm stroker crank in the 440 it would make it a 460- wrong! Well went ahead and ordered a new 460 block from Vegas carts, will assemble it with the new 69mm crank and the new 4.510” billet rod I ordered. I also have a new 460 oem cam from my carryall build- I put torque cam in that motor. So all in all this should be a fresh 460. Gonna reuse the head from the 420- it has 35lb valve springs, chromoly pushrods, and nr racing 1.3:1 roller rockers. Should be a nice unit once it’s all back together!
