I think that magnetic dipstick should be mandatory. Hello Vegacarts.

I will be building some more for my 12000 watt generator when it shows up. The 1/4 " Mk 3 is in my 4850 watt small block clone generator. And the 3/8" Mk 4 is in my VC 460 Vicki . The early Mk 1 and Mk 2 units reside on my fridge. The Mk 4 is pictured on page 149 of my Vc 460 build.

I pulled my magnetic dip stick on the generator I used for about 12 hours in the last power failure. I did a hot drop oil change after the power was on. Guess what was on the magnetic dip stick ? That fine silvery black powder that I pull daily on my VC 460 powered yamaha. I am of the opinion that a magnetic drain plug is of no use. While the engine is sitting it does gather the iron based particles. BUT after the engine is started and ran @ 3000-5000 rpms do you really think the magnets no matter how many you have is able to hold the metal bits as that splash fin goes ripping thru oil throwing it all around ? It is still MHO that the magnetic dip stick wiped down BEFORE each use is the way to maximize splash oiled engine life.

I just had a brain storm for the 208 cc duromax engine. The full 8" X 3/8 " magnet bottoms out with a couple of inches to spare. So I slid a rubber grommet down the magnet to close off the crankcase. So for periods where the generator is not being used this item will be pulling any iron debris out of the engine. Then when clear I will swap the regular dip stick back in for running the engine. I don't think the 8" magnet will bottom out on the larger clone so I think they will still need the dip stick made to order.

This a.m. I crafted up my Mk 5 dip stick from yesterdays brain storm. It will be used for the big block generator after it runs. With this set up I can extent the magnet deeper down in the crankcase while the engine is sitting

Here is a pic of my Mk 5 dip stick in a VC 10 bolt 460 side cover. I am guessing the the new generator will have the same basic form even if it is only a 7 bolt unit. I just looked when my this idea started with my Mk 1 unit. That was 2016. Just think of all the tiny iron bits I have removed from my crankcase. Ironically this MK 5 is the original Mk 1 drilled out to fit the larger 3/8 " diameter rod. I still have the original Mk 2 that is presently unused to make in to something else if needed.

Interestingly enough I run a GReddy magnetic drain plug on my Subaru and with it's 5000 mile oil changes there is nothing or next to nothing on it which shows how much the oil filter does for this area.
