Unhappy Powerwise QE flashing "RED"

OK guys, need some help here!! Just bought a 2009 TXT (36 V.) with PDS. Got it home and plugged it in to the provided charger (Powerwise QE) to top off the bats. All I get on the charger is a flashing red light (a series of 6 flashes then a pause) on the charger. I get this with the charger either plugged in or not plugged in to 110V. Did I get screwed right off the bat ?? I'm hoping I am doing something wrong because I didn't get any instructions with the cart. Also no indication from the seller of any problems, but also I didn't ask either (just assumed). Any help would be appreciated. I'm not electrically challenged so charger troubleshooting would be possible with some guidance. Also, some instructions for charger operation may help. Any help would be appreciated - thanks - RAY

Default Re: Powerwise QE flashing "RED"

Answering my own question, hoping it may help someone else! After quite a bit of research here's what I have found. The 6 red flash-pause-6 red flash-pause,etc. indicates that an internal circuit problem exists. I opened the unit up (not the easiest thing) and looked around for anything smoked/burned. Clean as a whistle-nada!! There are some soldered in fuses on the 110 input and 36 v. output. The input fuse checked ok, but the output fuses (looks like two in parallel) were open. I closed the unit up as the seller is working with me to come up with a good charger or will try to fix this one. I am not very impressed with this charger due to the way it is designed as basically a "throwaway/non-repairable" unit. I'm hoping the seller comes up with something more substantial. We'll see. - RAY

FOLLOW UP TO "QE" CHARGER PROBLEM: After searching extensively for some sort of repair help for my QE, I ended up buying an older used Powerwise charger (transformer type) to replace this "piece of crap" (my opinion) QE charger. As long as it is working I suppose the QE is an ok charger, but if something goes wrong with it, it's throw-it-away and look for another charger. My dealer mentioned that probably 8 out of 10 QE chargers he gets with off lease carts are bad. Just thought I'd follow up to add my findings to the data base. - RAY

PS-These older transformer type chargers are tough as nails, well designed, have an ammeter, and are repairable.
