Default Paint and Rust on cables

It looks like my resistor cart has been painted and the resistor cables have paint on them. The cables also look old and rusty on the speed control panel as well as the motor. If I clean these up will it give me any more power or longer battery life? If so what do you recommend I clean them up with? Thanks in advance.

To rephrase my question. Will it be worth it for me to take these apart and clean the connections?

It won't hurt, but unless you find something really bad, I wouldn't expect any big proformance boost. Drive it full speed for a few minutes and then feel the connections. If any are particularly warm, I would clean em. You could upgrade to larger cables, but if yours are good, I wouldn't expect too much.

Cleaning will make them look nice but it probably won't make any difference in performance unless you have bad connections.

If connections are good (they don't get hot) ,
trying to take them apart and clean them might do more harm than good.

A rusty stud could break, strip out or twist off when you attemt to remove it.

sometimes leaving stuff alone is best option.
