Default Type of oil filter matter?

I originally used the pleated wire mesh style as seen in first pic below.

However, I quickly ordered one this week and thought it was the same kind, but it’s just the round mesh (no pleats). ALSO....the filter and the backer plate that actually attached to the motor was 2 separate pieces, not sure if that matters.

Besides the pleated one have more surface area, does it matter which one is used?

I know they’re referred to as washable but do ppl actually just reuse them?

Appreciate the info!

I have changed the oil in hundreds of these engines and never once replaced a filter. Just wash them and put it back. I did change the o-ring on a few but most of the time I reused them.

I’m going to clean the one that was in there (pic 1) and put it back in, seems like a much better filter.
