36V motor replacement 1012191 to 1012190
Hello all, This is my first technical post here and i hope i'm doing it right and in the right place. I did some research on the net and on the forum but i haven't found any answers to my questions so here goes.
I have a 1983 Club Car DS with a 36V motor (Model 1012191) in which i have to replace. 1st Question : Is it ok to replace my motor with a 36V motor, model 1012190?. 2nd question : The indentifications of the 4 terminals on the casing of 1012190 are corroded and i cannot read them. Can someone with the same motor tell me the ID's of each terminal from front to back with the motor placed with the casing to the right and the spline left?. Thanks. Joe. |

Re: 36V motor replacement 1012191 to 1012190
I'm in the same situation. Bought a 1984 club car that was setting for awhile. Replaced all the batteries, forward/reverse switch, and all 5 solenoids. Got it moving but feel a bunch of heat from the resistor coils only after running for a few minutes. Even though I did 1 wire at a time while replacing it, I can't find a wiring schematic that matches the motor I have 1012190. Only stamps are F1 and F2. I want to be sure it's wired correctly.

I have a 1012191 36v motor. It is labeled from the REAR TO THE FRONT: A1, S2, A2, S1.

Re: 36V motor replacement 1012191 to 1012190
First post have patients!
I also have an old 1984 according to the serial number on the car. The motor I have is the 1012190 and the connections are not in a straight row and can't read the terminal ID's. If anyone has pictures of the wiring (not diagram, I have at least 42 of those) it would be appreciated. Would love pictures distant enough to show wiring from the forward/revers switch to the solenoids and batteries if possible. Shouldn't have purchased this anyway but now I have it. Just after purchasing it my cousin told me his cart was for sell. Great price for it I thought, batteries good for another year or so and charger. Works great. Purchased for $500. It's a Melex cart. The batteries alone in core are $18 each at Sam's club. I know because I had just purchased 6 without cores for the Club Car. Thanks! |

Re: 36V motor replacement 1012191 to 1012190
I'm a little confused here. You said you can see terminals stamped F1 and F2?
That would indicate that you have a Shut motor. I'm looking at the parts manual and 1012191 and 1012190 are both series motors. The manual is not clear enough for me to see the terminal connections on the 1012190. If there are two terminals closer to the non-drive end of the motor, these are the armature and the two closer to the drive end are the Field terminals (S1, S2). On 1012191, Looking at the motor shaft, The terminals should be S1, A2, S2, A1 in a clockwise from the front of the cart. Typically S2 is connected to battery ground and A2 is connected to the Resistors A1 and S1 are connected to the Fwd/Reverse switch. |

Re: 36V motor replacement 1012191 to 1012190
Okay. I have almost the same situation and I am curious what the resolution was.
I have a 1985 Club Car DS. I’m performing the Carts Unlimited conversion kit. When trying to clearly identify the terminal labels, I see a F1, which I’m not expecting in a series motor. It is a Club Car motor p/n 1012190. But it sounds like a user has a manual that shows 1012190 as a series motor? Attached is a picture of the motor, where you can see the terminal stamp. It’s not very clear in the picture though. |
