New solenoid
I have a '89 Carryall with the KF82. I replaced the solenoid with a new one from a reputable local cart shop. He said it is a heavy duty solenoid. When I took the old one off, I zip tied the eyelets together from each post so I didn't get them mixed up. I installed the new one and test fired it in service mode. The starter would not stop spinning and I had to remove the battery cable. I took all wires off again and checked continuity across the two large posts and apparently the solenoid is stuck. I took it off and banged it around, checked ohms again and had zero reading. Re-installed and tried it again. Same problem, starter spinning and had to remove battery cable again. Is there a wrong way to install a solenoid? I called the guy who sold me the part and he said there might be something wired wrong that is frying the solenoid.

Re: New solenoid
Most cart solenoids are constant duty, fire the pedal and it's alive across the terminals while the cart is running. Return voltage then comes back to the battery. Not like an automotive application which is momentary.
Is this what you are seeing ? Chris. |

I just re-read your post, What do you mean by "The starter would not not stop spinning " It's supposed to do that in normal operation. Chris. |

Re: New solenoid
It is not supposed to spin when you release the pedal.

Re: New solenoid
Sounds like a defective solenoid,or your pedal-switch is hung-up.Check for power at the stud from the pedal-switch.If it has power, the switch is stuck,if its' dead, the solenoid is hung-up.Did the solenoid have markings on it for Batt.?Some have a designated Battery-Lug,and hooking them up backwards can fry them kinda quick sometimes. The other possibility is that the solenoid was incorrectly packaged and is a Intermittent-Duty,which will fry quickly in a cart,or its' just a Defective Unit.Hope this helps.
