G16 still backfires
I have recently rebuilt the engine on my 1996 G16, but it still backfires. I have not changed or modified the muffler. Could a clogged muffler be the reason it is backfiring? I was thinking about picking up a new stock muffler from Plowmans. Any advice?

Re: G16 still backfires
Check the throttle plate stop screw. Back it off until the plate closes. Then screw in until it just touches. Turn 1/2 turn to just barely open the plate. this releases the vacuum caused by a closed plate, which fools the carb into putting a lot of fuel into the engine. When it gets air when you press on the accel, it causes a backfire.

Re: G16 still backfires
If that does not work check your choke cable. If it is not returning all the way it will suck more fuel. Also if your cart is lifted you need to change to a utility cart cable. They are longer, a lift kit will stretch a stock choke cable.
