Too much voltage
Any one that knows me knows that I run the AC system. And for what I use them for, there is little to no help. So here is my question. My controller has a max voltage. And if the battery pack exseeds that the controller won't come on untill the pack drops voltage. At full charge the pack will only be just 3-volts over max. Not alot but still the controller won't come on. It will take 30 min. for the pack to drop 3-volts.
Is there a easy of faster way to drop 3-4 volts. |

Re: Too much voltage
Yep. Get an old resistor coil or coil board. Get a solenoid and wire up the resistor board. As soon as you engage the solenoid the pack voltage will drop and controller will enable.
You may make the coil burn into plasma too...you should probly get a coil from a lift truck....or maybe just use 2 batts instead of the whole pack. Once your under power you can disengage the solenoid and the voltage shouldn't go above max. |

I can do all you say, but it has to go across the entire pack. Is there a way that you can reset the charger are is there a charger that I can set max voltage on. |

Re: Too much voltage
To go across the whole pack your gonna need an awefully big resistor. You could also split the pack in half. That would make it much easier to find parts.
Charger...I'm sure there is but it'll cost lotsa cash. |

Re: Too much voltage
Why not run the control circuit on a lower voltage? I'm not sure what controller you have but most sense voltage from the "Keyed" positive input. It'll never see the max voltage that way. You could even use a DC-DC convertor to drop down the pack voltage to an acceptable level and run the control circuit off that.

100-watt light bulb, if not enough use two.

Re: Too much voltage
That's what I was thinking Nate, instead of a large resistor, use headlight , or off road lights for a quick battery draw.
Other than that ABB makes some voltage monitors, that you could wire up and shut your charger off at a set voltage, but your pack will probabley never see full charge. What kind of voltage are we talking about? |

Re: Too much voltage
GB's pack could be anywhere from 84 to 108 volts so I would use a regular household 100 watt 120 volt light bulb. At 120VAC the bulb would draw about 830mA, less on lower voltage so two might work better.
I know these bulbs are for AC but GB's cart is an AC cart... |

its only AC after the controller

Re: Too much voltage
GB you could make your own charger out of a veriac transformer
and charge almost any size pack |
