Custom Precedent bumper build
I started a new '05 precedent build this summer, and I've decided to try my hand at a set of custom sheet metal bumpers. I'm no body man, but I'm ok with a mig welder and I've got a very strong DIY streak. Here's the cart as it sits, after a few bolt ons.

The rear bumper will be fairly conforming, following the body lines, with a hitch built in and some flush mounted LED tail lights for a little hot rod style. I recently started a powder coating business, so these will be coated either black or red.....haven't quite decided yet. |

As of right now, I feel like it's a bit too thick on top. Maybe trim it down so it doesn't stick out so far?
Thoughts? |

Re: Custom Precedent bumper build
I think it looks great just the way it is from the pics!
But I wouldn't see the harm in bringing it in another 1/2 to 3/4", (There's nothing worse then a "shin digger" when loading, or coming around the back of it!) I never cared for the molded plastic trim completely around the Precedents, I think your on the right track to add something that looks like it's missing! |

I agree, I think pulling it in will look better. I think the Precedents definitely need something on the tail end to break up the trim, and cover the leaf spring shackles.

Re: Custom Precedent bumper build
Looks great - I would box in the ends and possibly the bottom to make it look a little cleaner.

Yup, the plan tonight is to finish the end caps, and cut a 1" strip to box in the bottom, and help support the hitch.

I meant to update this thread earlier but kinda slipped past me. I finished the bumper right when I decided to sell the cart. The new owner requested the bumper be smooth, so I finished it that way. Turned out pretty clean.
What do you guys think? Would anyone be interested in this design? I can powdercoat any color. |
