2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
I have a 2007 freedom electric cart and it supposedly has the freedom chip in it. I was wondering how i can figure out if it does for sure and if there is any way i can improve the speed. Thanks!
It is a PDS cart also. Thanks |

Re: 2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
Welcome to BGW!
Be sure to flip Run/Tow switch to Tow when doing any electrical work on cart. Otherwise, you will damage the PDS controller. There are 4 PDS modes and they are determined by which pins are jumpered on J2. Here is a drawing showing the different "Chip" configurations and where J2 is. Also attached is a list of the modes that gives speed on stock height tires (18") and the regen brake levels for each. The controller limits the motor to about 4400RPM in the Freedom mode, which is about 19MPH with stock tires. Going to 20" tires will yield about 21MPH. You will probably have to install a lift kit to go to taller tires, but a 22" tire will give you about 23MPH. However, increasing tire height, decreases torque and increases the load on motor and motor drive circuit. To increase speed other than changing to taller tire, you have to go to an aftermarket controller that doesn't limit motor RPM, at which point you can also increase battery pack voltage. Also, the Owner, Service and Parts manuals can be downloaded from the Stickies at the top of this forum. |

Beeper is attached to passenger side glove box and people have been known to disconnect it. If beeper works, but doesn't sound when you put controller in diagnostic mode, your controller might be sick. (Diagnostic mode = Key-OFF, Run/Tow in Run, and F/R Neutral to Reverse 5 times.) |

Re: 2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
Like I said, the beeper is attached to the passenger side glove box and people have been known to disconnect it.
The most obvious answer to: "how would i fix that? "..... is: Reconnect it. The trick is getting to it, to reconnect it. If you've got long skinny arms that bend in strange ways, you might be able to reach it from under the front of the cowl, but most people have the remove the key switch panel. It is physical located behind the Tee holders (seven holes in dash). All you can see the two pop rivet heads hold the bracket in place, on the side wall of the passenger glove box |

Re: 2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
I reached my arm in between the hood and the "cowl?" and I could reach it. I disconnected both of the connections and reconnected them and it still isn't working. Idk what else to try. It was working at one point and then it just shut off.

Re: 2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
If it was connected when you found it, it could be a bad beeper, a bad controller or some bad wiring.
Here is a schematic for a PDS cart. As you see, the beeper get B+ from the battery side terminal on the solenoid, so B+ is connected all the time. It gets B- via J1 Pin-10 on the controller, so it beeps when the controller tells it to. J1 Pin-5 also has B+ all the time, so I'd put a DVM between J1 Pin-5 and Pin 10 and see if voltage is present when beeper ought to be beeping. If you do, the controller is good (or at least the beeper control part) That leaves some wires, push on terminals and the beeper itself to check out. |

Re: 2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
Woah woah woah haha I'm new to this. I reached in there and the greenish black cable is closest to the dash and the red is towards the front. I pulled them off and reconnected both and still nothing. Where would the other ends of the red and green/black cables be?

Re: 2007 E-Z-GO Freedom speed question
If you do what JohnnyB recommended with a DVM, and you get power going to the buzzer, you no longer need the buzzer. Use the DVM to determine what "chip" you have, since this was the original question. A light bulb of the appropriate voltage could also be used.
