Starting an EZ-Go cart conversion business! Any info?
Just trying to get some insight into the business of taking the used carts and converting them into hunting buggies, cool customized carts, or whatever else the customer may want. Im not trying to cut into anyones business and i live way down in South Alabama and theres no where close by that offers this. Just was going to try it on the side with a few carts and see how it goes. Is the time and effort worth the profit? Any info or advice is greatly appreciated.

Good luck. Hope you make it. When it's a hobby it's a lot less stressful.

I say go for it. Yes its a blast granted I'm only building carts for friends and customers in my spare time, so I guess it's not a business
But yes if you do it right there is money potential. |

You can do it and make $ on the sale of carts. The problem you & Colton will run into sooner or later is somebody's cart will stop running or have a problem, I guarantee it! You will not be able to diagnose or repair the problem, then what are you going to do?
What if it's still under your warranty.... (you have to offer some type of warranty) are you going to take it to a qualified technician or tell the customer to go fish? Just a thought for all you guys who want to jump into the custom cart business. |

What Scotty said isn't only for a cart business, But, it's for EVERY business!
Warranty's are a big concern, but, so is customer service! expect to do allot of "freebees"... Only because, "bad news" travels faster then "good news"! it can either "make you" or "break you" my .02 |

Don't give up you day job
Do it as a hobby/side job, once you are a "business" the government will want a "cut". When you add up there "cut" you will find that you have to take the one dollar's worth of car and sell it for over $2 just to break even. Running a "business" is not a 9 to 5 job, you will work all your wakening hours for several years just to get going, and not make a real profit for many years. |

Welcome to BGW.
Nobody's mentioned liability yet. When you modify a product an resell it, you become the manufacturer of that product and are culpable for damages it cause. Your limit of culpability more or less depends on how good your lawyer is vs. the plaintiff's lawyer, but you still get nailed with liability insurance premiums and/or legal expenses. Depending on how and where you incorporate, you might be able to shield your personal wealth with a corporate veil, but get good legal advise from the onset. Then you've got the IRS to deal with.............. I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying, make fully informed decisions. |

Re: Starting an EZ-Go cart conversion business! Any info?
I build sort-of custom carts. All I do is add lights, hubcaps, speed chip, and repaint it. I clean it up real nice. I don't bother with wheels or controllers or lift kits, because since I am not a dealer people don't want to drop too much on a cart. However, If you are building something completely custom, You can make money, you just have to find the right buyer. look at what these guys do, this is what I mean by completely custom. I also attached a picture of what I do.
