Default 2001 EZ-GO Stripped Axle????

Hey Guys,

I have had my 2001 EZ-GO going on 10 years with very little trouble over that time. However, beginning this weekend, I would hear a kind of pop coming from the rear whenever I went over a curb. I stopped to let my wife out at the house, and heard the pop go to a grinding noise. Thinking I may have picked something up, I looked under cart and everything looked fine. Once I tried to go again, the motor would spin, but the cart barely moved. It feels like the axle spline is spinning like it has been stripped. Does this happen or any thoughts on trouble-shooting this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My baby

NICE looking cart.
It's actually the softer hub that strips as a result of those big tires placing extra strain on the weakest link. Ausco make a HD replacement PK#2027 seen here > Ausco Ezgo HD Hubs

Thanks for the compliments and reply Scottyb. I am sure if I remove the wheels, I will be able to tell if the splines in the hub are the culprit just by visually looking at them. I will check tonight and go from there. Thanks for the advice!!!

Yes
... remove the center cap from your wheels and reinstall wheels. Have somebody try to go while you watch the castle nut on the axle. If it spins without moving the tire or it spins faster than the tire the hub is stripped out.

Or just jack it up, put stands under it, take the wheels off, Hold the brake and hit the go pedal at the same time. Have someone look for the spinning nut but not the hub.., If that doesn't do it, put the wheels back on and try the same test..

Thanks kgsc...will give this a try after work and hope for the best. If it turns out to be hubs which sounds like what has happened from everyone's suggestions, this will definitely be an easier fix than I was anticipating.

Those hubs are a weak point on the ezgos. The Ausco hub set will fix that..

Sure enough...put the cart up on stands and watch the castle nut spin while the hub just sat there. Definitely hate it failed, but this seems like a simple enough fix so overall happy. Time to order some Auscos

Order placed...thanks Scotty!!!!
