Yes I checked ring gap, it all checked out ok. Going to tear it down again and check everything more in depth.

Just at the top? Or in multiple places all the way down?

Using rings and checking end gap isn’t as accurate as a bore gauge, but will get you a ballpark idea. Ignore the top inch as the piston doesn’t go up that far, and measuring the ridge will give false results. You have to check it all the way down where the cylinder actually wears. They tend to flare out, which will give you great ring gap at the top and the bottom but in the middle can be substantially larger (substantially being in the thousandths of an inch). Small tolerance variances can make all the difference.

I used bore gauge. I was having a few beer at the time.

Even with a few beers, bore guages only read cylinder deviation from a set 0'. so it was either in tolerance or not. Now if you are using an inside micrometer then I can understand the few beer comment because I can't see those darn lines on the spindle anymore. I used to be able to read verniers and micrometers without glasses, now I need magnifiers!!!!
Good luck!

As for G2 Muffler. I have one I can part with for a fee plus shipping.

Just food for thought. My friend rebuilt his cart and used aftermarket rings and it smoked like a mosquito fogger. Compression was great but just smoked terrible. Tore it back down and used OEM rings and then it didn't smoke.
